Hai Money recently hosted its inaugural Riders in Finance event, blending a love of motorbiking with professional networking in an innovative and relaxed setting. This unique event, held on November 24, 2024, combined adrenaline, camaraderie, and the chance to strengthen connections within the financial services industry.
A Passion for Riding and Supporting Brokers
For Bruce Li, Hai Money’s Head of Growth and Strategy, the connection between motorbiking and mortgage broking is more than just a fun concept. With over a decade of experience in finance, Bruce wanted to create an event that brings together his two passions—supporting brokers and riding motorcycles.
“As a broker, you’re constantly moving, whether it’s dealing with paperwork or managing client meetings. It’s a stressful role, and I wanted to offer a unique opportunity to connect, unwind, and have meaningful conversations in a setting that’s completely different from the traditional networking events,” said Bruce.
The day began with a scenic ride from Broughton Street Lookout to Bobbin Head Picnic Ground in the stunning Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, offering participants the option to either ride on two wheels or travel by car. The event attracted around 100 professionals from across the industry, including brokers, lenders, and representatives from Finsure, Decode Protected Yield Fund, Doo Wealth, Mortgage Ezy, and Judo Bank.
A New Way to Build Connections
What set this event apart was its balance of fun and professional development. Riders took to the road, bonding over shared experiences, while also having the chance to network with others in a more relaxed environment.
The event wasn’t just about motorcycles—it was about creating a space for industry professionals to connect in a meaningful way. Doo Group Australia’s Managing Director, Simon Chen, remarked that it was a “truly unique and meaningful gathering,” highlighting how the event offered a platform to build relationships and explore collaboration opportunities.
Key sponsors, such as Decode Trusted Yield Fund, also praised the event for fostering valuable networking in an unconventional setting. Panbo Ye, Chair of the Investment Committee at Decode, emphasised the importance of collaboration within the finance sector, stating that the relaxed yet professional atmosphere “underscored the importance of collaboration in our industry.”
Breaking the Stress of the Industry
In a sector that is often high-pressure, the Riders in Finance event provided a refreshing opportunity for brokers to step back and de-stress. With keynote speeches, group activities, and family-friendly options like a BBQ and food catering, the event was designed to offer something for everyone.
Bruce Li further explained that this event is just one example of Hai Money’s broader commitment to supporting brokers. “As brokers, you’re under constant pressure. We wanted to create an event where you can truly unwind while still growing your professional network,” said Li. “It’s about balance—supporting brokers both professionally and personally.”
A Growing Community
Beyond the motors and the mechanics of the day, the event highlighted the community that Hai Money is working hard to build. The sense of camaraderie among the riders was palpable, with brokers sharing their experiences and offering each other advice and support. This event is part of Hai Money’s ongoing mission to foster a culture of support and connection that extends beyond business.
Peter White, Managing Director of the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA), praised the initiative, noting that “this to me is an invaluable connection and group, and I look forward to being a part of all the rides going forward.”
A Bright Future for Brokers
Looking ahead, Hai Money is committed to continuing to support brokers with both innovative technology and community-building initiatives. The company recently introduced new Payment Solution software, which automates commission payments and allows brokers to manage their commission splits. As Hai Money expands into Victoria with the addition of State Manager Ryan Cheng, they are ensuring that support for brokers is never limited by geography.
In the coming years, Hai Money will be enhancing its broker support systems, with a particular focus on lead generation and a new boost/referral system to help brokers grow their client base.
Moving Beyond Traditional Networking
At Hai Money, we understand the importance of supporting brokers in every aspect of their career, from their personal well-being to their business needs. With the Riders in Finance event, we’ve created a new space for brokers to connect, collaborate, and build lasting relationships outside of the traditional office setting.
By combining personal interests with professional growth, Hai Money continues to push boundaries and create new ways for brokers to succeed. This event is a prime example of how Hai Money is committed to building a strong, supportive community for brokers—on and off the road.
As we look forward to the next Riders in Finance event, we remain focused on expanding our support network and enhancing the tools and resources available to brokers. Whether you’re in the business of broking or enjoying the open road, Hai Money is here to ensure your journey is a successful one.
